The Fishwives Smokehouse, making ripples in the artisan community!

Born and raised in France, Alice and Marie's fondest childhood memories are to do with food. Arriving in Queenstown half a decade ago, they were most surprised by the quality of the fresh, locally grown produce. After a fascinating kitchen experience for one and as sourdough adventure for the other, the pair stumbled upon the craft of smoking … and so came to The Fishwives Smokehouse.

Initially starting with a classic smoked salmon, the two friends quickly expanded their range to new flavours inspired by their French background. Suman & Lavender hot smoked salmon, salmon pate, horseradish and lemon sauce; you’ll find it all at their stall!

They are always working on some new flavours, so make sure to check them out at the weekly markets and the events over summer. But if you’re not spending your holidays in Queenstown you can always have a cheeky look at their website, www.fishwives.co.nz or contact Alice & Marie for your orders at fishwivesnz@gmail.com

You’ll find them this summer every weekend at Remarkables, Arrowtown and Cromwell farmers markets. You’ll also find them:

  • 25th September, Alexandra Blossom Festival
  • 6th & 7th November, Southern Crafters in Invercargill
  • 27th November, Winton Southern Fete
  • 4th December, Cromwell Festival Fete
  • 15th January, Lake Hayes A&P Show
  • 11th & 12th March, Wanaka A&P Show
